Zcash (ZEC) is back in the spotlight after breaking above $1,600 as a new European investment product gives investors regulated access to the privacy-focused cryptocurrency. The move comes alongside rising shielded transaction activity and an upcoming network upgrade that could make private payments significantly faster.
ZEC gained more than 10% over a recent 24-hour period, pushing the cryptocurrency above $1,600 as trading activity increased. CoinMarketCap reports that the move was supported by the launch of Europe’s first physically backed Zcash exchange-traded product, renewed institutional interest and a broader revival of the privacy-coin narrative.
Europe Opens Another Route Into Zcash
The latest catalyst is the launch of a physically backed Zcash ETP by 21Shares on Euronext Paris and Amsterdam.
The product gives European investors a way to gain exposure to ZEC through traditional brokerage accounts without having to purchase and custody the cryptocurrency themselves. That is important because access has historically been one of the barriers separating institutional investors from privacy-focused crypto assets.
The European product also arrives after the launch of Grayscale’s U.S. Zcash ETF, meaning ZEC is now gaining exposure through regulated investment products on both sides of the Atlantic.
For investors, the significance goes beyond the headline price.
A regulated investment product can potentially bring new pools of capital into an asset without requiring every investor to interact directly with a crypto exchange or wallet.
Zcash’s Network Is Showing More Activity
The institutional-access story is occurring alongside a notable increase in Zcash’s actual on-chain activity.
Recent data cited by CoinMarketCap shows weekly shielded transactions reaching their highest level since 2022, with one week recording 62,379 shielded transfers. Around 89% of those transactions reportedly went through the newer Ironwood pool.
That matters because Zcash’s core proposition is its ability to provide privacy through shielded transactions.

A rising price by itself can be driven by speculation, leverage or short-term momentum. Increasing use of the network provides another metric for investors to watch because it can indicate that demand is extending beyond trading activity.
It is still too early to conclude that the recent increase in shielded transactions represents a permanent change in network adoption. However, the development gives the current ZEC rally a fundamental component that is worth monitoring.
NU7 Could Strengthen the Network
Zcash is also approaching one of its most important protocol upgrades in years.
The Network Upgrade 7, or NU7, is targeted for November 5 and would reduce Zcash’s target block time from 75 seconds to 25 seconds. The change is designed to make private payments faster while improving capacity for shielded transactions.
The upgrade could therefore address one of the practical limitations of privacy-focused transactions: waiting time.
Zcash holders have already backed the 25-second block target in a governance poll involving nearly 2.4 million ZEC, providing strong support for the proposed change.
NU7 is therefore becoming an important milestone for the investment thesis. If the upgrade works as intended, faster confirmation times could make Zcash more practical for payments and other applications where transaction privacy and settlement speed both matter.
The Institutional Demand Question
The biggest question for investors is whether Zcash’s new investment products can generate sustained demand rather than simply fuel another speculative rally.
Grayscale’s Zcash ETF has already attracted significant capital, while the upcoming 3-for-1 share split is expected to make individual ETF shares more accessible without changing the underlying value of investors’ holdings. Recent reporting put the fund’s assets above $900 million.
The arrival of the European ETP adds another potential source of demand.
If inflows continue across both U.S. and European products, it could provide evidence that institutional interest in privacy-focused assets is becoming more durable.
But there is another side to the equation.
ZEC has already experienced an exceptionally large rally, with the token up more than 70% over the previous month according to recent market reporting. A sharp increase in price can attract momentum traders and leverage, making the market increasingly vulnerable to a pullback if new demand fails to keep pace.

What Investors Should Watch Next
The immediate focus is likely to remain on whether ZEC can sustain prices above the $1,600 area after its latest breakout.
Beyond the chart, three fundamental indicators could become more important.
First, investors can watch inflows into the U.S. and European Zcash investment products. Continued inflows would provide a stronger signal that institutional demand is expanding.
Second, shielded transaction activity will show whether the network is gaining real usage alongside the price rally.
Third, the November NU7 upgrade will provide a test of whether Zcash can translate its privacy technology into a faster and more practical payment network.
Zcash is therefore entering an important period. The combination of regulated investment access, rising shielded activity and a major network upgrade gives ZEC more than one catalyst to watch.
The challenge for investors is determining whether these developments can support the cryptocurrency after the current momentum eventually cools.
