CoinGecko, a leading crypto data platform, has published a report on the most popular non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on its website. NFTs are unique digital assets that can represent art, gaming, sports, or any other form of creative expression.
The report ranks the top 30 NFT collections based on how many users have added them to their watchlist as of September 22, 2023. According to the report, the most popular NFT collection on CoinGecko is Nakamigos, a series of pixelated animals inspired by Japanese culture. Nakamigos has been added to 1,234 watchlists, indicating a high level of interest and demand for the collection.
Going by this methodology, the second most popular NFT collection is Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), a project by Yuga Labs that features unique ape avatars with various traits and accessories. BAYC has been added to 1,076 watchlists and has become one of the most sought-after NFTs in the market.
NFTs Recording Growing Interest?
The report also reveals the most popular NFTs launched in different years. Pixelmon, a revival of the classic Pokemon-inspired NFT project, is the most popular NFT launched in 2022, with 786 watchlist saves. It ranks fifth overall in the top 30 list.
Interestingly, NFTs minted in 2021 still dominate in popularity, accounting for 12 of the top 30 collections. However, 2023 NFTs are not far behind, with 9 collections on the list, compared to 8 for 2022 NFTs. This shows that despite the widespread perception, NFTs are not just a fad but a growing and diverse market that attracts users from different backgrounds and preferences.
Ethereum Is the Dominant NFT Blockchain
Finally, the report also shows that Ethereum remains the dominant blockchain for NFTs, with 24 of the top 30 collections being Ethereum NFTs. Solana and Bitcoin Ordinals are the only other chains represented in the list, with 4 and 2 collections, respectively.
