Fidelity has launched a new digital investment product called the Fidelity Digital Treasury Fund (FDIT). This product is designed for institutional investors, and its operation as a token is now live on Ethereum’s blockchain. This is a digital network that records ownership, transactions, and transfers of assets.
The main asset behind FDIT is a product called OUSG, which is backed by U.S. government bonds and money-market instruments. This is an asset that allows the fund to generate stable returns similar to U.S. Treasury bonds but with more flexibility in terms of fast transfers and transactions without lockup periods.
Key Characteristics of Project FDIT
Fidelity Digital Treasury Fund is now live and works with Ethereum’s blockchain technology to record all transactions. This indicates round-the-clock operation without the need for traditional banking hours. The fund’s underlying asset, OUSG, consists of short-term U.S. Treasury bonds and other safe financial products. This gives the fund a stable yield, or return, for investors.

FDIT also offers the benefit of quick transfers between investors and allows for instant redemptions through digital currencies attached to RWAs such as the U.S. dollar.
With over $200 million already invested, FDIT is designed to make it easier for large institutions to invest, redeem, and transfer funds digitally.
FDIT’s Market Position and Competition
FDIT enters a competitive market where it faces rivals like BlackRock’s USD Institutional Digital Liquidity Fund (BUIDL), which currently holds more than $2.2 billion in assets. Despite this, Fidelity hopes to stand out because of its broad customer base and trusted reputation in the financial world.
To this end, both Fidelity and BlackRock aim to bring traditional investment products like Treasury bonds onto the blockchain, making transactions very fast and even more transparent. As it stands, FDIT is only available to large institutions. However, options for investors may be added in the future.
