Sony’s Soneium Launches First Music NFT Collection with Coop Records

Sony, through its blockchain technology, has released the first music NFT collection. This was done with the on-chain record label Coop Records. The goal of this action is to use blockchain technology to completely transform the way artists make money off of their creations. To this end, Soneium specializes in NFT marketplaces, while Sonova now offers the music NFT collection.

The Music NFT Collection and Its Pricing

The music NFT collection features exclusive unreleased music by Tokyo-based producer NUU$HI. According to the official announcement, this collection includes a 22-minute-long music NFT priced at 0.000777 ETH, which is approximately $2.11.

For now, on the Sonova marketplace, 644 copies have already been produced thus far. This music NFT collection was developed with the intention of giving artists a new source of income while giving them greater control over their artistic output.

To this end, by buying these exclusive digital goods, fans can now use blockchain technology to directly support their favorite musicians. Soneium’s approach to music NFTs reflects a growing trend in the entertainment industry, where blockchain is being used to improve how profits are shared among creators.

Coop Records and Fair Distribution

Coop Record, with more than 600 songs transferred to blockchain, is committed to addressing the unjust profit-sharing method in the music business. Especially, when artists receive less money since record labels, while streaming services keep a large portion of the earnings. Coop Records and Soneium aim to change this by using blockchain to ensure artists receive their fair share. Cooper Turley, the founder of Coop Records, emphasized that blockchain-based apps with token incentives are the future.

Soneium’s main goal is to build an ecosystem where creators can be rewarded fairly for their work. The company’s Singapore-based unit, Sony Block Solutions Labs, has highlighted several potential uses for Soneium’s blockchain, including protecting intellectual property and introducing new profit-sharing models for creators and fans. The Soneium mainnet, launched on January 14, 2025, is based on Ethereum Layer 2 technology.

For now, Columbia Records, RCA Records, and other major companies are owned by Sony Music Group, although Soneium has never had an official partnership with any of these labels. However, Soneium’s blockchain platform is already becoming well-known, with more than 248,000 accounts and 1.9 million addresses actively using its network. This action marks a big step toward using blockchain technology to change the music business.
