Bitcoin ATM Count Reaches New High of Over 35,000 Worldwide

In a clear indication of Bitcoin’s rising popularity, the global count of Bitcoin ATMs has recently hit a remarkable milestone, exceeding 35,000 operational machines. This surge in Bitcoin ATMs represents a significant breakthrough, breaking free from the clutches of the 34,000 mark that had lingered since March. Surprisingly, the numbers took a dip in April, hitting a nearly two-year low with a total of 33,389 Bitcoin ATMs.

If we rewind the clock to December 2022, we can witness an interesting phenomenon. Despite the price of Bitcoin (BTC) experiencing a surge during that period, there was a noticeable decrease in the number of ATMs.

The statistics from Coin ATM Radar indicate that March alone witnessed the disconnection of approximately 3,600 Bitcoin ATMs worldwide. It seemed like the downward trajectory that began in December was destined to continue its course.

However, the tides turned, and in May, we witnessed a resurgence with nearly 1,400 new Bitcoin ATMs. And the trend continues, with an additional 278 machines popping up in the first few days of June.

The convenience and speed offered by Bitcoin ATMs have played a significant role in their growing popularity. Users can effortlessly buy and sell BTC using fiat cash or cards, enjoying a seamless experience that doesn’t require them to navigate the complexities of traditional exchanges. Another appealing aspect is the relatively lower emphasis on Know Your Customer (KYC) data, making Bitcoin ATMs a more private alternative for those seeking discretion.

Bitcoin ATM Global Distribution: US Takes the Cake

Unsurprisingly, the United States stands tall in the global distribution of Bitcoin ATMs, boasting over 30,000 machines installed within its borders. This staggering number accounts for more than 85% of the total operational machines worldwide.

The only other country crossing the 1,000 ATM mark is Canada, with about 2,745 installations. Across Europe, around 1,400 Bitcoin ATMs can be found, with Spain taking the lead by hosting 286 of these machines. Curiously, the United Kingdom, despite its reputation as a financial hub, falls behind with a mere 16 Bitcoin ATMs.
