Justin Drake and Dankrad Feist, prominent Ethereum researchers, have stepped down from their advisory duties at the EigenLayer, a restaking platform on Ethereum.
The resignation followed a community argument over their involvement with the restaking platform. The community expressed their concerns about potential clashes of interest. To this end, the researchers have announced their decision via X (formerly Twitter) to relinquish their financial advisory position by laying emphasis on redirection of effort into the core Ethereum network.
Researcher’s Decision and Ethereum Community Concern
The role of Drake and Feist has sparked controversies among the members of the Ethereum community.
According to DefiLlama, EigenLayer ranks among the largest decentralized finance (DeFi) projects on Ethereum in terms of total locked value (TVL). However, because of researcher allotted tokens and connections to such a massive project, some community members believe that Drake and Fiest’s role at EigenLayer could influence them, potentially leading to divided loyalty.
However, Aya Miyaguchi, the executive director of the Ethereum Foundation (EF), in a post, has acknowledged that the company is working on a policy to prevent future conflicts of interest. To this end, this proposed policy will give guidelines for people in the foundation in order to avoid being pulled between projects that might lead to potential clashes of interest.
Market Reaction and Action Taken
In response to Drake and feist resignation announcement, the price of Eigenlayer’s token dipped by over 10%. This shows the broader interest in the project and the wrapped attention given to it by the crypto community.

In the same vein, Ethereum’s price also went down by 1%, indicating the undiverted attention of the crypto investors regarding choices made by the leaders in the crypto space.
Moving forward, Drake has apologized for the ‘drama’ he caused. However, in his post, he made it clear to stay away from all advisory and investment roles that will raise questions about his neutrality. This choice, Drake explained, is to display to the Ethereum community his full commitment to the network above any other project.
