Trezor has introduced its new flagship device, the Trezor Safe 5, which boasts enhanced security features and a haptic color touchscreen. Alongside this, Trezor has launched the Trezor Expert service, offering personalized onboarding for new users.
The Safe 5 features a new 20-word backup process, allowing users to upgrade from a standard Single-share Backup to an Advanced Multi-share Backup. This method employs Shamir’s secret sharing to divide the master secret key into multiple unique shares, significantly improving security by eliminating single points of failure. Users can still recover their crypto, even if some shares are lost. To protect these backup phrases from fire, water, and physical damage, Trezor offers a 20-word version of its Trezor Keep Metal solution for $99.
The Physical Structure of the Trezor Device and How It Works
Encased in damage-resistant Gorilla Glass, the Safe 5 comes in finishes such as Black Graphite, Violet Ore, and Green Beryl. It supports numerous cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and thousands of others, ensuring broad compatibility for users to securely store, manage, stake, and use their crypto. The device Suite desktop application and mobile app enable users to monitor their assets on the go and access Trezor’s network of third-party services for a tailored crypto experience.
For Bitcoin aficionados, Trezor presents a Bitcoin-only variant of the Safe 5. This version eliminates all non-Bitcoin features and code, offering a more focused and streamlined Bitcoin experience. After the success of the limited edition Bitcoin-only Trezor Safe 3, Trezor now offers unlimited editions of both the Bitcoin-only Safe 3 and Safe 5 in a striking, fiery orange color.
Matěj Žák unveiled the Safe 5 at BTC Prague 2024, where he also introduced the device Expert. This new service offers personalized, one-on-one online onboarding sessions to help customers set up their hardware wallets. Trezor Expert is designed to build user confidence in self-custody by alleviating concerns about making mistakes and educating users on protecting their digital assets.
The service provides step-by-step guidance on best practices, ensuring users grasp fundamental security concepts. Trezor Expert is available seven days a week, allowing users to book sessions at their convenience, no matter where they are. This interactive learning experience encourages participants to engage with specialists, ask questions, and seek clarifications to maximize the benefits of the session. The device Expert guarantees that only the customer has access to the wallet backup and other sensitive information.
Matěj Žák emphasized the significance of Trezor Expert, stating,
“Newcomers to hardware wallets often lack the experience, knowledge, and confidence needed to set up their devices, turning to social media and online research for assistance. We wanted to provide customers with access to personalized guidance from a trusted, reputable brand known for its commitment to security.”
Trezor Expert not only helps customers properly set up their hardware wallets but also delves into the security aspects of self-custody, including private key management and safe online practices.
The Trezor Safe 5 is now available for preorder at $169. The Bitcoin-only and Black Graphite models will start shipping in early July, while the Green Beryl and Violet Ore models will be ready by mid-August. The device Expert can be purchased on the Trezor e-shop for $99.
