The BNB Chain Plans Pascal Hard Fork upgrade for March 2025

BNB Smart Chain (BSC) is getting ready to implement its upgrade known as the Pascal hard fork. The upgrade is set go live on testnet on February 25, 2025, before mainnet in mid-March 2025.

To this end, through the Pascal fork, BSC is aiming at achieving enhanced compatibility with Ethereum by introducing smart contract wallet features while improving security with advanced cryptographic methods.

Smart Contract Wallets for Better User Experience

The Pascal hard fork introduces smart contract wallets as its most significant update. However, these wallets will operate as standard crypto wallets but will include extra features that enhance usability and security. Moreover, the Ethereum network enhancement follows EIP-7702 which improves account abstraction capabilities on the blockchain.

Smart contract wallets bring several benefits. The update helps shield consumers from irreversible financial losses by introducing simpler recovery alternatives for lost accounts. Also, support for multiple signatures will boosts security by allowing several users to manage a single wallet. However, to increase transaction efficiency, the system enables users to set spending limits and handle transactions in batches. To this end, these wallets enhance users control over their funds by offering improved management flexibility.

Pascal Hard Fork Brings Stronger Security with Advanced Cryptography

The Pascal hard fork enhances security measures by implementing a new cryptographic upgrade. The Pascal hard fork includes BEP-439 integration for BSC to support Ethereum’s EIP-2537 using the BLS12-381 cryptographic curve. However, the selected curve enhances both security and efficiency which results in blockchain transactions becoming more quick and dependable.

The BLS12-381 cryptographic curve will enable the combination of multiple digital signatures into one consolidated signature. To this end, transaction verification will become faster, resulting into better blockchain network efficiency.

What to Expect Next

As developers test their applications on the updated testnet to ensure compatibility with the new features, regular BNB Chain users do not need to take any action, as most applications will continue working as usual.

To this end, the Pascal hard fork is just one step in BNB Chain’s long-term plan. Lorentz will launch in April 2025, to reduce block intervals to 1.5 seconds, also, Maxwell will launch inJune 2025 to further lower them to 0.75 seconds. These improvements aim to make BNB Chain faster and more scalable in the future.
