Ledger, the firm known for making crypto hardware wallets, has officially announced that it is ending support for its Nano S device. It is important to note that this tool wasn’t their first product, but it gained attention after its launch date in 2016, becoming a trusted tool for users to safely store their digital coins.
Now, in its spring 2025 update, Ledger has told users and developers to start preparing for a shift, as it will no longer support updates or new apps for the Nano S. Ledger also confirmed it has stopped producing the device and encourages users to switch to its more modern versions, like the Nano S Plus or the Nano X.
Why Ledger Is Ending the Nano S
Ledger says that the decision to move away from the Nano S is part of a plan to focus on better and more secure technology. The company explained that newer models offer stronger features, better storage for apps, and faster performance. Because of this, Ledger will no longer accept new apps, updates, or feature requests for the Nano S.

Developers and companies using the Nano S for blockchain apps or wallets are now advised to warn their users that their services may no longer work on the device. This step is part of a bigger push to improve crypto security as the market grows and changes quickly.
Reactions from the Community
Not all users are happy about the news. When the update was shared online, many longtime users showed disappointment. Some said it was “uncool” that Ledger was pushing people to buy new devices and re-enter their secret recovery phrases, which can be risky if not done carefully.
Others expressed hope that someone would create open-source software to keep the Nano S useful, especially for people who prefer it as a simple cold wallet. While Ledger moves forward with newer products, users now have to choose between upgrading their hardware or trusting the community to keep old tools running.
