ENS streamlines cryptocurrency transactions by associating human-readable domains with wallets, eliminating the need for intricate addresses.
Former ENS core team member Brantly Millegan announced through a post on X that Google has extended its built-in support for Ethereum wallet balances to encompass Ethereum Name Service (ENS) domains.
Google Enhances Features for ENS Domains
ENS, short for Ethereum Name Service, offers human-readable domains like example.eth, which users can link to their Ethereum wallets. This simplifies the process of sending and receiving funds for cryptocurrency holders by substituting intricate wallet addresses with memorable domain names.
First introduced in May 2023, Google’s initial native support for Ethereum wallet balances enabled users to search for specific public addresses and view the corresponding wallet balance directly within search results. Expanding upon this capability, Google has now extended it to ENS domains.
Under this updated feature, users can input an ENS domain like Vitalik.eth into Google’s search bar, and the platform will furnish the corresponding blockchain address along with the current wallet balance fetched from Etherscan.
The displayed balance reflects the wallet’s state as of the most recent external transaction.Nevertheless, despite this advancement, some users have encountered irregularities in their interaction with this service.
Reports on X suggest that the feature may not consistently appear in search results. Millegan highlighted that the functionality tends to operate more consistently when utilizing private browsing mode or when logged out of Google services.
Advancements in Google’s Cryptocurrency Integration
Google’s foray into crypto and blockchain technology has been steadily advancing. The tech giant commemorated the Ethereum Merge celebration in 2022 with animated pandas dancing in synchrony.
In addition to integrating Ethereum wallet balances and ENS data into search results, Google has made notable progress in accommodating cryptocurrency-related content on its platform.
Last year, the company updated its crypto advertising policy to include “Cryptocurrency Coin Trusts,” allowing investors to access shares in trusts holding digital assets. Consequently, products like Bitcoin ETFs from major asset managers such as BlackRock now appear in search results for relevant queries.
The recent integration is just one of several milestones achieved by the project in recent months. ENS has recently shifted to a fully decentralized model and forged partnerships with key players like GoDaddy, a prominent domain registrar.
Jeff Lau, a developer at ENS, has previously underscored the importance of humanizing web3 by offering intuitive solutions for addressing complex functionalities within blockchain networks.
