Ripple Transfers 50M XRP Before Key Deadline: Insights on the XRP Lawsuit

Ripple transferred 50 million XRP tokens before the May 20 deadline in the SEC lawsuit, fueling speculation about the lawsuit’s outcome.

A notable transaction involving Ripple and its cryptocurrency XRP occurred on May 20, stirring speculation amid the ongoing lawsuit with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Ripple moved 50 million XRP prior to the significant May 20 deadline.

Ripple Moves Significant XRP Holdings Amid Legal Battle
According to Whale Alert, an on-chain data tracking platform, Ripple moved 50 million XRP tokens to an undisclosed wallet, valued at about $25.67 million. This transfer coincides with critical deadlines approaching in the lawsuit.

Additionally, the transaction suggests a potential Ripple selloff strategy as the settlement between Ripple and the SEC nears. The SEC remains adamant about the proposed $2 billion penalty despite Ripple’s objections.

Fred Rispoli, a pro-XRP attorney, discussed key aspects of the ongoing lawsuit during the debut episode of Legit Bros, a crypto-focused livestream. He shared insights on potential timelines and actions by both parties, predicting a possible resolution at the district court level by July or August, with a fine likely below $25 million.

Rispoli’s prediction contrasts starkly with the SEC’s proposed penalty, garnering significant attention in the crypto community. The recent XRP transaction, closely aligned with Rispoli’s estimate, raises speculation about an impending settlement.

The Significance of the May 20 Deadline
As per Judge Sarah Netburn’s court schedule, the SEC, Ripple, and any third parties must submit briefs opposing the omnibus letter motions by the end of May 20. Subsequently, the court will decide on the omnibus sealing motions.

Following this ruling, the involved parties have 14 days to submit redacted versions of relevant documents. The significant transfer and heightened whale activity preceding the deadline have fueled additional speculation within the XRP community.

As of the latest data, the XRP price has experienced a 0.47% decline over the past 24 hours, trading at $0.5125. Conversely, the trading volume of the Ripple-backed token surged by 67.20% to $817.81 million due to numerous whale transactions.
