Cardano, the eighth-largest cryptocurrency by market cap, has just launched a major upgrade to its network: Mithril. This protocol aims to make Cardano more efficient, secure, and accessible for users and developers. Here’s how it works and why it matters for ADA holders:
ICYMI: With Mithril, #Cardano‘s network becomes more efficient, streamlined, and capable of supporting a wider range of applications and use cases.

What Is Mithril?
Mithril is a stake-based signature scheme that allows users to sync with the Cardano network faster and easier. Instead of downloading and validating the entire blockchain, which is over 129 GB in size and growing per Blockchair data, users can download a certified snapshot of the current state of the network. This snapshot is verified by a group of signers who stake their ADA to attest to its validity. An aggregator collects these signatures and delivers them to the clients who request them.

By using Mithril, users can bootstrap a full Cardano node in minutes instead of hours or days. This means they can participate in the network’s activities, such as governance and voting, without running a full node. It also means they can use light clients and applications that interact with the Cardano network while maintaining security and trust.
Mithril was introduced in August 2022 and has been tested on the testnet for several months. It went live on the mainnet on July 30, 2023, marking a significant milestone for the Cardano ecosystem. Mithril is expected to boost Cardano’s scalability, performance, and usability, as well as attract more developers and users to the platform.
Cardano Is on Track for Smart Contract Dominance
Mithril is part of Cardano’s roadmap to become a leading smart contract platform that can compete with Ethereum, Solana, and Polygon. Cardano’s founder, Charles Hoskinson, has expressed his confidence that Cardano will surpass its rivals in decentralization, innovation, and adoption by the summer of 2023.
For ADA holders, Mithril is a positive development that could increase the demand and value of their tokens. So far, ADA is only up 6.5% in 2023 (year to date). With Mithril live and more upgrades coming soon, such as smart contracts and decentralized applications, ADA could soar even higher in the near future.
